Our grantmaking: Tools and collaborative power for a critical decade

Mosaic is a national funder and field catalyst strengthening the movement infrastructure that supports activists and advocates working towards climate, conservation, and health & justice goals. Mosaic strategically funds four types of movement infrastructure identified by field leaders as critical for success – Narrative, Connection, Leadership & Advocacy Tools – in the context of near-term climate, conservation, and health & justice opportunities in order to deliver wins now, while building toward Mosaic’s long-term goal of an adequately equipped, collaborative, and more effective field.

  1. Narrative: Cultivate and distribute a shared narrative that instills agency and activates individuals, deploying these collective narrative strategies to translate ideas into action and impact.
  2. Connection & Trust: Foster strong, collaborative relationships between key environmental actors to develop aligned and strategic approaches while bridging to new constituencies that can further expand the movement, often through coalitions and networks.
  3. Leadership: Grow a diverse and representative pipeline of leaders who can shape, co-design, engage on and lead local, regional and national strategies to achieve movement-level goals.
  4. Advocacy Tools & Training: Equip organizations and people with the open-source tools and information required to empower and mobilize constituencies towards population-scale action.

Our grants are collaborative in nature, bringing together multiple organizations to build shared infrastructure; typically multi-year to support deep trust building; and bridging across issue and organizational silos to connect and uplift climate, conservation, and health & justice fights.

Since 2020, Mosaic’s Leadership Council of grassroots, NGO & philanthropy movement leaders has funded nearly $30M in critical shared tools for advocates in the biggest battles. These collaborative projects are building population-level power and driving policy wins on climate, conservation, and health now.
